Winston County completed the 2015 season with a 7-4 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region five, the Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Winston County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to New Hope by a score of 28-13. The Yellow Jackets improved in 2015 with their first winning season since 2009. The Yellow Jackets won as many games as in any season since 2009. Since 2010, Winston County has gone a combined 24-40. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 2A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Winston County has managed to compile a record of 116-157. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 2A and 268th in the AHSAA. Wes Tidwell leaves Winston County after four seasons with a 21-22 record including 0-3 in the playoffs. Bart Stephenson will become the head football coach at Winston County next season. His three teams at Hatton finished with a combined record of 15-17. The last two squads reached the playoffs but lost in the first round each season. They were the first playoff spots for the Hornets in ten years. The Winston County Yellow Jackets will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2016 season. The Yellow Jackets may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 3A to 2A. They will compete in region seven this year. The Yellow Jackets have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 60-51 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 2A and 125th in the AHSAA. Region seven will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. The Yellow Jackets will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season. The Yellow Jackets open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Haleyville on Friday, August 26 at Malcolm Blake Stadium. Last year the Haleyville Lions finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 4A region five. The Lions lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to North Jackson by a score of 28-6. Winston County and Haleyville have met a total of 58 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 15-42-1 record against the Lions.
